How long does Toronto Tree Protection Zone or tree-permit review take?

There is no single published City processing time covering every construction-related tree application. Timing depends on completeness, site inspection, tree type, proposed injury, design revisions and neighbour/boundary procedures. Toronto does publish specific notification steps for neighbour and boundary-tree applications, so homeowners should start Urban Forestry coordination well before excavation is scheduled.

Do I need an arborist report if construction stays outside the TPZ?

Not every nearby tree automatically creates an injury-permit requirement, but an arborist report or Tree Protection Plan can still be required by the applicable planning/building submission. Toronto's current Terms of Reference require arborist and tree-protection documentation for specified planning applications where regulated trees fall within the stated review areas. Confirm the exact submission requirements for the project type.

Are Toronto TPZ rules the same in Mississauga or Oakville?

No. The distances, fees and processes in this guide apply to the City of Toronto, including North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough. Mississauga, Oakville and other GTA municipalities have their own tree by-laws and application procedures. A Toronto TPZ distance should not be assumed to satisfy another municipality's requirements.
